After 115 years, the national scouting group changed its name from Boy Scouts of America to Scouting America, hoping to foster a more inclusive environment. Girls have been allowed to join since 2018 and 2019, first in Cub Scouts and then in Boy Scouts. The individual Boy Scout program was changed to Scouts BSA at the same time. The Ozark Trails Council Boy Scouts comprise around 20% to 25% of girls since they were allowed to join.
Scout Executive Travis Rubelee says his daughter is a scout, and he is excited for her to follow in his and his father’s footsteps. He also says that if it takes a name change to make more girls realize they can do the same thing, then that’s great, too.
