A surrogate mother in a legal battle over the fate of a baby with a serious heart defect has had a boy born in Texas. McKenna West, who traveled to the hospital from Alaska as a surrogate, said she felt pressured to end the pregnancy after doctors diagnosed the unborn baby with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a serious congenital heart defect that affects the heart’s ability to pump oxygen-rich blood.
