February 9 2024- An eighth-grade teacher, who faced a police search of her classroom for a controversial book, is taking a temporary leave of absence from W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School in Great Barrington. The announcement was made by the school’s principal, Miles Wheat, on the “ParentSquare” app for school communications. The teacher’s name is being withheld at her request due to concerns about the intense political atmosphere surrounding book challenges. The principal acknowledged her as a highly-skilled and well-liked teacher and acknowledged that her absence would be challenging for students.
