Starting this fall, Michigan high school graduates will be able to attend community college tuition-free under a new state budget initiative. This program, funded through the fiscal year 2025 budget, aims to cover most or all of the costs for in-district students at community colleges, including Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC), Kalamazoo Valley, and Muskegon. Governor Gretchen Whitmer expects this “Michigan Guarantee” to save over 18,000 students up to $4,820 annually, removing financial barriers and allowing students to focus on their education and career goals. This initiative builds on the 2021 Michigan Reconnect program, which initially targeted individuals 25 and older but has since expanded eligibility to those 21 and older.
