January 24 2024- The Tulsa school board proceeded to appoint Ebony Johnson as superintendent on Monday, despite objections and threats of a takeover from State Superintendent Ryan Walters, who advocated for a nationwide search for other candidates. Following a 90-minute executive session, the board voted 4-2 with one abstention to name Johnson superintendent until June 30, 2026.
