The Health Plan and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine have teamed up to include the school in the Health Plan Scholarship Program, which has been active since 2009. The program has awarded over $43 million to medical and nursing students to practice in West Virginia. Jeff Knight, president and CEO of the Health Plan, stated that the initiative aims to address the primary care physician shortage in the area and support less fortunate students. James Nemitz, president of the osteopathic school, noted that the scholarship will cover tuition and fees, benefiting students significantly and encouraging them to stay in West Virginia. The program, which is open to multiple state colleges, is now accepting applications for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic years.
