A new study by Visme, using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, has revealed the fastest-growing and declining jobs from 2020 to 2024.

Fastest Growing Jobs

Nurse midwifery saw a 260% increase, leading the list. With only 4 midwives per 1,000 live births in the U.S., compared to 30-70 in other high-income countries, demand has skyrocketed.

Proofreaders and copy markers grew by 250%, despite AI advancements. Errors in AI-generated content have emphasized the need for human oversight.

The production industry is transforming, with both job growth and decline. Tire builders, machine feeders, and rail-track maintenance operators are among the biggest risers.

Fastest Declining Jobs

Model makers (metal & plastic) saw the biggest drop at 88%, largely due to CAD software and 3D printing replacing traditional methods. Survey researchers and statistical assistants declined by 80%, as automation continues to streamline data collection. Parking enforcement workers and telemarketers also made the list, as digital solutions take over these roles.
