Alabama State Department of Education hit by Cyber Attack, Data Breached

The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) was recently targeted in a cyber attack, which was detected and stopped by state security personnel. Superintendent Eric Mackey announced that while some student and teacher data was compromised, the department is actively investigating the breach with state and federal law enforcement agencies, the Alabama Attorney General, and cybersecurity experts. Services have been restored, and additional security measures have been implemented. The breached data may include personally identifiable information such as names and addresses, but financial details were not affected. ALSDE has confirmed that no ransom was paid, and all data has been restored from clean backups.
