Jacqueline Ma, once celebrated as San Diego County’s “Teacher of the Year”, has been sentenced to 30 years to life in prison after confessing to sex crimes involving two young boys.

Ma, a former teacher at Lincoln Acres Elementary School, was exposed when a mother discovered sexually explicit messages between her 12-year-old son and Ma, including one where she professed love for the boy. Authorities later uncovered a prior incident involving an 11-year-old student, whom she had groomed, culminating in her removing her shirt in front of him in a classroom.

During her sentencing, Ma broke down in court, stating: “I ripped away their childhood instead of following the path of what a teacher should be. I let my selfishness overrun the boys’ best interests.”

Expressing deep remorse, she added: “I just pray for an extra hand of protection and strength to all of those I’ve hurt. I’m so sorry.”

Despite once being honored for her dedication to students, Ma’s actions led to devastating consequences. She will not be eligible for parole for 30 years and must register as a sex offender.

This case has sparked discussions about child safety and teacher misconduct, serving as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting students from abuse.
