Kids get the most out of school if they strengthen this key relationship, experts say: They need to feel ‘seen, heard and valued’

January 25 2024- Michele Myers, an assistant professor of elementary literacy education, shared her approach when her daughter expressed dissatisfaction with her 5th-grade teacher. Instead of becoming combative, Myers collaborated with the teacher, seeking ways to support her child as a team. She emphasized the importance of working together for the common good of her child. Myers, along with Linda C. Mayes, a professor of child psychiatry, pediatrics, and psychology, co-authored a book titled “The Educator’s Guide to Building Child & Family Resilience.” According to them, a positive relationship between children and educators is crucial for the child to benefit the most from their school experience.
