‘Bring Them Home’: Davido Uses World Cup Stage to Demand Freedom for Abducted Schoolchildren, Teachers in Oyo, Borno

Afrobeats star Davido has used a global platform to draw attention to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo and Borno states.
The singer appeared at the FIFA World Cup Countdown performance wearing a customized jacket that carried the names of pupils reportedly kidnapped by bandits in Oyo State. On the back of the jacket was a simple but powerful message: “Bring Them Home.”
Before taking the stage, Davido addressed the audience and called for peace, unity, and urgent action. A video of his remarks quickly spread across social media.
Expressing sympathy for affected families, the music star said he prays daily for the safe return of those still in captivity. He also urged the government to speed up efforts to secure their release.
“We pray for peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and those who have been killed. It is a very sad situation. I pray to God every day, and I also pray for the government to hasten things. My country is going through a lot. It is sad,” he said.
His comments come at a time of growing concern over the safety of students and teachers in parts of Nigeria. The abductions in Oyo and the continued security challenges in Borno have heightened fears among parents, educators, and community leaders.
Meanwhile, many Nigerians have praised Davido for using his international platform to spotlight the crisis. Supporters say his message has helped keep public attention on the urgent need to bring the abducted children and teachers home safely.
