Abuja Pastor Amos Isah Faces Child Sexual Abuse Charges Involving 14-Year-Old Church Member

An Abuja court has continued hearing a child sexual abuse case involving Pastor Amos Isah, founder of the Prophetic Victory Voice of Fire Ministry in Gwagwalada.

The 39-year-old cleric appeared before the FCT High Court in Gwarimpa on several charges linked to the alleged abuse of a 14-year-old girl. The charges include child sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, coercion, emotional abuse, gross indecency, and child abduction under the Child’s Rights Act.

During the hearing, the prosecuting lawyer urged the court not to release the pastor. He described the cleric as a danger to society.

According to the prosecution, the pastor allegedly continued to intimidate the family of the affected person after the case became public.

The court adjourned the matter until June 30 for continuation of trial. Prosecutors said they would present more witnesses, including the affected person.

From a child safeguarding perspective, the case has raised concerns about the safety of children in religious and community spaces.

Child protection advocates say positions of authority should never protect anyone from accountability, especially in cases involving children.

Court documents alleged that the teenager was lured into a church auditorium under false pretences before the alleged sexual abuse occurred.

The documents also claimed the pastor threatened the child and family afterward.

Experts say intimidation and emotional manipulation are common in child abuse cases. Such actions often discourage affected persons and families from speaking out.

The case has renewed calls for stronger child safeguarding systems in churches, schools, and community organizations.

Advocates are calling for proper reporting channels, stricter child protection policies, and increased awareness for parents and caregivers.

They also urged communities to prioritize the safety and emotional wellbeing of children throughout legal proceedings.

Many child rights groups insist that protecting children must remain more important than protecting reputations or positions of influence.
