FG, Lagos Introduce “Snacks for Thought” to Boost Learning in Public Schools

The Federal Government, working with the Lagos State Government, has launched a new school feeding programme to improve pupils’ health, attendance, and learning.

The programme is called “Adopt-a-School: Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS.” It was launched on Tuesday under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme. It will provide breakfast meals for primary school pupils before classes begin.

Officials said the goal is to ensure children do not come to school hungry. Hunger often reduces concentration and affects learning. The launch took place at the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area secretariat. It also ran at the same time across all senatorial districts in Lagos State.

In addition to meals, pupils received school bags, tablets, snack packs, water bottles, and other learning materials. These items are meant to support both learning and well-being.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the programme as an investment in children’s future. He said good nutrition is key to better learning. He also stressed the need for strong partnerships between government, private organisations, and other groups.

Officials explained that the programme will run on a digital platform. This will allow individuals and organisations to adopt schools and sponsor meals for pupils.

They said the initiative will work alongside existing school feeding programmes. It is also meant to improve access to basic education support.

Education stakeholders in Lagos welcomed the programme. They said it could improve attendance, reduce hunger in classrooms, and create a better learning environment for children.
