Osun State Feeds Over 200,000 Pupils Through School Feeding Programme

The Osun State Government has revealed that its O’Meals school feeding programme directly benefits over 200,000 people, including pupils, food vendors, and local suppliers.
According to the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, the state currently spends more than N32 million daily to sustain the initiative.
Osun, the only Nigerian state with a structured school feeding programme running consistently since 2006, is preparing to host a high-level stakeholders conference on July 8. The event, themed “Sustainability of O’Meals for Improved Child Nutrition in Osun State,” aims to chart the future of school feeding at the sub-national level.
The conference is being organised in collaboration with the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD and will bring together global development partners, including the Dangote Foundation, UN World Food Programme, Nutrition International, and ActionAid Nigeria, among others.
Beyond improving child nutrition, the O’Meals initiative is also recognised as a driver of local economic growth, supporting food vendors and suppliers while reinforcing Osun’s commitment to child welfare and poverty reduction.
With access to regular, nutritious meals, pupils in Osun State are better nourished, more attentive in class, and more eager to learn. The O’Meals programme continues to prove that when children are well-fed, they thrive academically, emotionally, and physically, laying a stronger foundation for a brighter future.
