Hajiya Falmata Alhaji-Bukar, the Executive Secretary of Borno State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (BOSACA), disclosed that 18,059 individuals, including 795 children, are receiving treatment for HIV/AIDS in Borno State. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, she expressed concern over the increasing rate of HIV/AIDS in the state. Alhaji-Bukar emphasized the agency’s commitment to intensifying sensitization efforts, especially in rural areas, aligning with the theme “Let Communities Lead” for this year. She noted that while residents in towns are more aware of HIV/AIDS, rural communities require more enlightenment. To address this, the agency plans to conduct enlightenment programs in rural areas, starting with Mafa LGA. Alhaji-Bukar stressed the importance of knowing one’s HIV status as a crucial step in combating the pandemic.
