The Gettysburg School District has implemented a new policy banning smartphones, smartwatches, and Bluetooth earbuds in all K-12 schools. The device-free policy aims to reduce distractions, improve focus, and enhance students’ mental health and social-emotional well-being. Elementary students must store their devices in their backpacks or classrooms, while middle and high school students will use lockable pouches provided by the district. Devices can be accessed during designated times. The policy allows for exceptions for students with medical needs or individualized education plans (IEPs). The new rules will take effect in the upcoming school year, with further details available during August registration.
