In June, Houston ISD saw over 4,000 employees leave, raising the total departures since the state takeover to over 10,000. This figure is three times higher than the average June departures over the past five years. More than 75% of these departures were voluntary, including retirements and resignations. Over 2,400 teachers left in June alone, surpassing the typical annual teacher turnover. Many teachers cited dissatisfaction with state-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles’ new reforms and abrupt class assignment changes as reasons for leaving.
