Salinas Union High School District Bans Cellphone use in Middle Schools

< 1 min read

The Salinas Union High School District is banning cell phone use in its four middle schools, adopting a growing trend to minimize classroom distractions. The district has partnered with Yondr Education Program, which provides pouches to securely hold students’ phones throughout the school day. Phones will remain in the pouches until the end of the day. This initiative aims to reduce distractions and enhance student focus, though concerns about emergencies are addressed by allowing schools to contact students directly. Some students and parents have expressed support for the measure.
