Juneau’s School District is Getting a $5.2M State Funding Boost. Board Members are Deciding what to do with it.

< 1 min read

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy recently signed this year’s state budget, which includes a $175 million increase in funding for school districts. The Juneau School District will receive $5.2 million from this allocation. Despite this funding boost, which is intended for one-time use, it will not reverse the board’s earlier decision to consolidate schools and reduce staff due to a substantial budget deficit. Superintendent Frank Hauser cautioned that this additional funding is not guaranteed beyond the upcoming school year (FY2026). The board’s decisions from the initial meeting are subject to further review. They plan to finalize which budget items to reinstate during their upcoming Saturday meeting, with over a dozen priorities under consideration.
