New State Laws Aim to Bring More Discipline to the Classroom

< 1 min read

State Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley’s “Let Teachers Teach Initiative” aims to enhance classroom discipline through two new laws. Act 400 requires meetings between parents and teachers if a child is removed from class three times for disruptive behavior, and it protects teachers from retaliation. Act 337 mandates expulsion for serious incidents involving knives or drugs and recommends expulsion for students in grades 6-12 who are suspended three times in a year for non-dress code or non-tardiness offenses. EBR Superintendent Lamont Cole confirmed that schools are preparing to implement these laws and will provide updated handbooks to parents soon. Dr. Brumley plans to explore further recommendations for improving classroom discipline in the future.
