Our research has discovered a method to alleviate the teacher shortage and enhance student learning.

< 1 min read

Australian schools are under immense pressure due to a shortage of teachers and students falling behind. Current efforts, such as tutoring and wellness programs, have had mixed results. Over the past two decades, researchers have developed and refined the Quality Teaching Model, which emphasizes intellectual quality, a positive learning environment, and connecting learning to students’ lives. The Quality Teaching Rounds, a professional development program based on this model, showed significant improvements in teaching quality, teacher morale, and student achievement in trials involving 1,400 teachers and 14,500 students. This method, tested rigorously, offers a promising solution to enhance teaching and student outcomes, especially in disadvantaged schools. The federal government has begun funding the program for early-career teachers, indicating its potential to address educational challenges across Australia.
