January 24 2024- Guadalupe Guerrero, the superintendent who has guided Portland Public Schools through 6½ tumultuous years, is resigning from his position effective mid-February. As the first Latino superintendent in the district’s history, Guerrero has faced challenges, including managing school closures during the pandemic and the district’s first-ever teachers strike. He communicated his decision to the school board and senior leaders on Monday, providing a two-month notice for the board to select a new leader or appoint an interim superintendent.
