Wake Schools Says it can Cover all Bus Routes this School Year

< 1 min read

The Wake County Public School System has made progress this year with bus transportation, reporting enough drivers to cover all routes, unlike last year. The school board is set to discuss raising the minimum wage for bus drivers to $20 per hour, a $2.80 increase that would provide substantial pay raises. Currently, the system has 573 drivers hired, with 30 in training and 21 more starting this week, and is planning for 539 routes. However, contractors can only cover 223 out of 283 routes, and there are gaps for students with disabilities, those without permanent housing, and pre-k students.
