27-Year-Old Man Remanded for Allegedly Raping Wife’s 14-Year-Old Sister

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of Ayeni Gbenga, a 27-year-old man, in an Ado-Ekiti correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl. The defendant, who is being tried for rape, reportedly committed the offence between October and December in Ado-Ekiti.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, stated that the defendant defiled the girl, who is his wife’s younger sister, multiple times. Oriyomi explained that the defendant would take the victim to a hotel where repeatedly defiled her whenever he took her to school.
The offence contravenes Section 265 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. The prosecutor requested the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted this request and ordered the remand of the defendant until legal advice is issued.
