FGC Kano Gets Digital Learning Boost as Government Revives 16 E-Library Projects
The Federal Government has intensified its drive to enhance the quality of education for children by reviving abandoned digital learning facilities in Federal Unity Colleges and building new technology-driven education hubs.
Dr Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, said 16 abandoned e-library projects have been completed under the programmes to create safer and more inclusive learning environment for children. He revealed this during the commissioning of an upgraded digital e-library and innovation hub at Federal Government College (FGC), Kano.
It will be solar powered, have modern lighting and approximately 80 computer workstations, and will be used to facilitate students’ learning, research and digital skills development.
The minister said the government has 36 abandoned e-library projects in Unity Colleges and had finished 16 projects with the intervention of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
In addition to enhancing learning materials, child education advocates believe that access to digital infrastructure can be used to safeguard children by minimizing the obstacles to quality education and providing opportunities for children who are vulnerable.
Alausa also visited the Bilingual School in Ungogo to review the activities of the school which will help to enrol more children, including Almajiri and other vulnerable children, in formal education.
The minister explained that over one million out-of-school children have been brought back to school in the past two years as part of the continuous reform of education, underscoring the significance of inclusive education in ensuring children’s right to education and development.
