Police Rescue Injured Newborn Abandoned in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued a newborn baby boy found injured and wrapped in a nylon bag in Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
The child was discovered on Monday, November 2, 2026, in critical condition and taken to hospital for medical attention.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a video shared on Facebook on Tuesday, revealing that the baby had sustained bruises on his hand and arm.
“We picked this baby in a very bad condition,” Adeh said, explaining that efforts were underway to ensure the newborn received appropriate medical care.
According to her, the baby will be handed over to social welfare officials after receiving treatment.
Adeh appealed to residents of Bwari and surrounding communities to provide information that could help identify the child’s mother and establish the circumstances surrounding his abandonment.
Anyone with relevant information was urged to contact the nearest police station or the FCT Police Command’s Gender Officer on 08036259662.
The spokesperson also encouraged women experiencing unwanted pregnancies or difficulties caring for newborns to seek assistance from social welfare authorities rather than abandon their children.
The incident follows similar cases recorded in Abuja in September, when police rescued two abandoned babies in separate locations.
A baby boy was discovered inside a carton in Kurudu, while a baby girl was found outside a residence in Gwagwalada.
Both discoveries followed alerts from residents who heard the children crying and sought assistance.
