The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines plans to discuss with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Commission on Higher Education the possibility of waiving the master’s degree requirement for guidance counselor applicants. Education Secretary Sonny Angara stated that this measure is a temporary solution to address the 5,000 vacant guidance counselor positions in public schools. Under this plan, applicants would not need a master’s degree immediately but would be given a grace period of five years to obtain the necessary credentials.
