Chief of Pediatrics Dr. Rebecca Reamy highlighted that young children are particularly vulnerable, experiencing severe effects such as slowed breathing, heart rate, low blood pressure, seizures, and coma. The main risks stem from products like marijuana gummies, which resemble harmless snacks, and the delayed effects leading teens to overconsume. Pam Fair from Safe Kids Columbus emphasized the importance of secure storage to prevent accidental ingestion, citing alarming statistics from poison centers. Recommendations include using childproof containers and discussing the dangers of these substances with children and teens to promote safety and awareness.
