Doctors Concerned as They Begin to See an Increase in Children Exposed to CBD & THC Gummies

Doctors and staff at Piedmont Columbus Regional – Midtown have noted a concerning rise in children visiting their pediatrics center due to accidental exposure to marijuana, THC, cannabis, and CBD products. Chief of Pediatrics Dr. Rebecca Reamy highlighted that young children are particularly vulnerable, experiencing severe effects such as slowed breathing, heart rate, low blood pressure, seizures, and coma. The main risks stem from products like marijuana gummies, which resemble harmless snacks, and the delayed effects leading teens to overconsume. Pam Fair from Safe Kids Columbus emphasized the importance of secure storage to prevent accidental ingestion, citing alarming statistics from poison centers. Recommendations include using childproof containers and discussing the dangers of these substances with children and teens to promote safety and awareness.
