Two Arrested Over Abduction of Underage Siblings in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction of two young children in Okpuno-Oba, located in Idemili-South Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement released on Saturday in Awka by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the children, aged between three and five, were rescued on June 12 by operatives attached to the Ozubulu Division.
Ikenga explained that the police responded swiftly following a report by the mother of the affected children. She had raised the alarm after one of her children returned home and recounted how an unknown individual had taken away two of his siblings while they were on their way to her shop near Nwafor Junction in Eziora, Ozubulu.
During the operation, police arrested two suspects: 19-year-old Daniel Onyedika and 25-year-old Nkechi Onuwa. Under interrogation, Onyedika confessed to the crime and led officers to the location in Oba where the children had been handed over to Onuwa as part of a broader criminal plot.
The police command has since widened its investigation to track down other members of the syndicate involved in the abduction. SP Ikenga confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
“This achievement showcases the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and tackling crimes against children,” Ikenga said.
