The Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti has sentenced two teachers, Ajibola Gbenga (43) and Olaofe Ayodele (52), to a combined 44 years in prison for raping two students and abusing their positions of trust.

The incidents occurred in November 2019 when the defendants lured the affected children, aged 17 and 15, under false pretenses. They used their authority as educators to exploit these young girls. One of the affected children explained how the harrowing events unfolded, leading to the legal proceedings.

Justice Adeniyi Familoni, in his verdict, stated that the defendants acted with “reckless abandon,” violating the students’ trust and abusing their offices. Both teachers received 20 years each for the individual charges of rape and an additional two years for abuse of office, with sentences to run concurrently. This judgment sends a strong warning against such heinous acts and reinforces the importance of upholding children’s rights.
