Borno Troops Rescue 47 Captives, Children, Women in Anti-Terror Operation

Troops under the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have rescued 47 people, mostly women and children, who were held captive by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Kangarwa village, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation is part of ongoing military efforts to weaken terrorist networks in the Lake Chad region and protect civilians affected by years of insecurity.
According to the Acting Media Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the rescue was achieved through sustained ground and air operations that placed continuous pressure on terrorist positions. This forced the armed group to abandon their locations, allowing the captives to escape.
The rescued individuals were reportedly held for an extended period before their liberation. Military authorities confirmed that they are now receiving medical attention at a secure facility. They are also being provided with humanitarian support in collaboration with relevant agencies to support their recovery and eventual reintegration into society.
From a child-focused protection perspective, the rescue highlights the ongoing risks faced by children in conflict-affected regions and the importance of coordinated efforts to protect vulnerable groups. Many of the rescued persons are children who have experienced prolonged trauma during captivity.
Military officials described the operation as part of a wider commitment not only to degrade terrorist capacity but also to ensure the safe return of civilians held against their will.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its determination to continue offensive operations across the North East. It stated that efforts will remain focused on dismantling remaining terrorist networks and restoring safety, stability, and normal life to affected communities.
