JAMB Alters 2026 UTME Schedule, Eases Early Arrival Pressure on Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an important adjustment to the arrival time for candidates sitting the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), a change that both parents and students are advised to note ahead of the examination period.
According to the board, candidates scheduled for the first session are now expected to arrive at their examination centres by 7:00 a.m., instead of the previously stated 6:30 a.m. The examination itself will commence at 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m. JAMB clarified that candidates are not required to reprint their examination slips, as the adjustment does not affect other critical details.
The updated timetable is part of broader efforts to improve the examination experience, particularly in response to concerns raised by candidates and parents about early morning travel. Many had highlighted safety risks associated with commuting before dawn, especially for students traveling long distances to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
The UTME will run from April 16 to April 25, 2026, with multiple sessions scheduled daily from Monday to Friday. JAMB noted that the revised timing is intended to ensure smoother operations across centres nationwide while prioritising the safety and convenience of candidates.
Parents are encouraged to make adequate transportation arrangements and ensure their children arrive early enough to complete necessary pre-examination procedures without rushing. Candidates are also advised to remain calm, adhere strictly to the new schedule, and follow all examination guidelines.
The adjustment reflects a more student-friendly approach, balancing operational efficiency with the wellbeing and safety of candidates during one of the country’s most important examinations.
