Swinging Beyond Limits: How Carter Bonas Turned Autism into a Superpower and Became a Champion On and Off the Golf Course

In a world where many are still discovering their passions, 14-year-old Carter Bonas has already found his and it’s changing lives.

Carter’s journey began in an unexpected place: his backyard, which just happened to be a golf course. What started as a casual suggestion from a friend to give the game a try turned into a defining moment.

The first time Carter stepped onto the course, something clicked. It wasn’t just a sport, it was peace, it was purpose. “There was no yelling, no screaming. It was peaceful,” Carter said. “I got to be in nature. Just the things that I love.”

Unlike the noise and chaos of contact sports, which Carter tried earlier in life, golf offered him space, both physically and emotionally, to be himself. And being himself has been the key to his remarkable rise.

Born on the autism spectrum, Carter didn’t speak until the age of four. Many might have seen that as a limitation, but with the unwavering support of his mother, family, and friends, Carter has defied every expectation.

Not only did he overcome his early challenges, but he also launched his own business, Carter Spectrum Golf, a nonprofit that offers free golf lessons to children and veterans. His mission? To make the sport he loves accessible and healing for others.

Carter has shown the world what’s possible when passion meets perseverance. His skill on the course has earned him spots on the Golf Channel and international media, and in 2022, he was named Sports Child of the Year by Sports Illustrated Kids.

Now, Carter is sharing his story with the world in his debut book, Swinging Beyond the Spectrum: How Autism Became My Superpower On and Off the Golf Course. It’s more than a memoir; it’s a message of hope.

Through his words, Carter encourages other young people, especially those with autism, to embrace their uniqueness and find their own superpowers.

Carter Bonas is more than a rising golf star. He’s a role model, a trailblazer, and a living reminder that no diagnosis can define your destiny.
