Alabama Man Sentenced to 325 Years in Child Sexual Abuse Case

A Cullman County man, James Michael Doss, has been sentenced to 325 years in prison following convictions in a severe child sexual abuse case that authorities describe as involving prolonged exploitation and multiple victims.

The sentence was handed down on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, by Cullman County Circuit Court Judge Emily Niezer Johnston after Doss entered a blind guilty plea in February to 12 charges linked to his 2020 arrest.

According to Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker, the convictions include two counts of first-degree sodomy, one count of production of child sexual abuse material, two counts of sexual abuse of a child under 12, and seven counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. The sentences were ordered to run consecutively, resulting in a total of 325 years.

Prosecutors said the case was initially scheduled for trial in March, but Doss chose to plead guilty without a plea agreement. Crocker described the victims as “steadfast and strong,” noting that they endured “unspeakable harm” and continued to pursue justice throughout the legal process.

Authorities said the investigation dates back to Doss’s 2020 arrest, when he faced similar charges including sexual abuse of children under 12 and production of illegal sexual content involving minors. Law enforcement officials stated at the time that the abuse occurred over many years before victims came forward, prompting a swift investigation that led to his arrest.

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry praised investigators for their work, noting that they acted quickly once allegations were reported, followed leads, and built a strong case for prosecution.

Following sentencing, District Attorney Crocker stated that “no sentence is too harsh for a pedophile,” adding that Doss showed no remorse and would likely have reoffended if not for the court’s decision. He credited the outcome to coordinated efforts between prosecutors, law enforcement, and the victims who came forward.

Officials say the lengthy sentence ensures the defendant will remain incarcerated for life, bringing closure to a case described as one of severe and long-term child exploitation.
