Borno School Attack: Troops Rescue 10 NECO Candidates, Teachers, One Child Still Missing

Military troops under Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 10 NECO candidates and teachers abducted during an attack on a secondary school in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The affected persons were taken when suspected ISWAP fighters stormed the Technical Secondary School during examination hours on Monday morning. Security forces say one more person is still missing, and search efforts continue.
The attack disrupted ongoing examinations and placed students and teachers in immediate danger. Military officials confirmed that troops responded quickly with ground forces and air support to locate the abductors.
According to the Joint Task Force, intelligence surveillance helped track the movement of the armed group toward Daggu community. Troops later engaged the suspects in a gunfight and successfully rescued the affected persons unharmed.
Seven motorcycles used by the attackers were recovered during the operation. However, the rescue mission also recorded casualties, including one soldier and one member of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
Child protection concerns remain high as schools in the North-East continue to face repeated threats from armed groups. Education authorities and security experts warn that such attacks disrupt learning and expose children to serious risk.
The military has intensified operations around vulnerable communities and school environments to prevent further incidents. Officials also urged residents to support security efforts by sharing timely information.
Troops say efforts will continue until the remaining missing person is safely rescued and stability is restored to affected communities.
