Lagos Court Sentenced man to Life Imprisonment for Defiling his Neighbour’s 7-year-old Daughter

David Jackson, aged 72, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lagos State Sexual Offences & Domestic Violence Court for defiling his neighbour’s 7-year-old daughter. The court also ordered that his name be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by Lagos State.
Justice Abiola Soladoye delivered the ruling, affirming that the prosecution successfully established all three elements of defilement against Jackson. The incident occurred on May 16, 2022, at Oyedele Close, Ojodu, Berger in Lagos.
According to the survivor’s testimony, who was 7 at the time of the incident and 8 when testifying, identified Jackson, a gateman in the neighborhood, dragged her into a room, covering her mouth with a handkerchief when she cried out.
The judge noted the survivor’s clear and consistent testimony, supported by a teacher who observed her distress and reported it to authorities. Despite attempts by Jackson to deny the charges, the court found the prosecution witnesses credible and compelling. The survivor’s father also testified, confirming Jackson’s presence in the neighborhood.
Justice Soladoye found David Jackson guilty of defiling a child under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015, sentencing him to life imprisonment based on the overwhelming evidence presented during the trial.
