March 4 2024- The Howard County Board of Education is navigating challenging budget decisions and superintendent selection amid campaigns for the five district seats available in this year’s election. Eleven candidates have filed for these seats, with all districts contested except District 3, where Jolene Mosley runs unopposed. Incumbents Antonia Watts (District 2) and Jen Mallo (District 4) seek reelection, while Robyn Scates (District 1) and Yun Lu (District 5) are not. The primary election on May 14 will determine the two candidates in each district advancing to the Nov. 5 general election, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Early voting spans May 2-9. The two at-large members are not up for reelection until 2026.
