March 26 2024- Carolina Abrego’s decision to become a teacher was influenced by the pandemic, as she took on the role of her kindergarten boys’ home school teacher during school closures and found joy in teaching them. This experience led her to volunteer and eventually pursue a teaching certification through a program offered by the Chula Vista Elementary School District, where she receives $40,000 to become a certified teacher within 18 months. The program aims to produce quality K-12 teachers quickly, providing residents like Abrego with a teaching credential, a master’s degree, and valuable classroom teaching experience alongside mentor teachers.
