Jury Reaches Split Verdict in Baby Abandonment Case Involving Dennis Eckersley’s Daughter

< 1 min read

A jury delivered a mixed verdict in the case of Alexandra Eckersley, charged with abandoning her newborn in the woods in freezing temperatures. Eckersley, daughter of Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley, was found guilty of reckless conduct, endangering the welfare of a child, and falsifying evidence, but acquitted of felony assault charges. She testified she was unaware of her pregnancy and thought the baby had died after childbirth in the woods on Christmas night 2022. Eckersley, who was homeless and had mental health and substance use issues, will be sentenced later. Her son survived but suffered from respiratory distress and hypothermia.
