February 6 2024- A couple from Queens, identified as Y.Z. and A.P., inadvertently became surrogates for two California families following a distressing mix-up at a fertility clinic. The couple had undergone treatment at Cha Fertility Clinic in Southern California, investing $100,000, resulting in eight embryos and a pregnancy for A.P. They were informed she was expecting twin girls.
However, it emerged that due to an “unimaginable mishap,” the clinic had actually implanted two male embryos from different families into A.P. This error came to light during ultrasounds throughout the pregnancy, but Cha Fertility doctors dismissed the findings as incorrect. Dr. Joshua Berger, one of the physicians, even recounted a similar experience with his wife, suggesting that ultrasound predictions could be inaccurate.
