March 1 2024- The Louisiana Department of Education has introduced a new workgroup, named the Let Teachers Teach workgroup, with the aim of addressing issues that cause disruptions in classrooms. State Superintendent of Education, Cade Brumley, emphasized the importance of protecting teachers’ time for instructional activities. The workgroup will focus on challenges such as excessive training, paperwork, scripted lessons, and student discipline. Comprising teachers from pre-kindergarten through high school, the group, chaired by Kylie Altier, Louisiana’s 2024 Teacher of the Year, seeks to find solutions to these issues and enhance teachers’ ability to concentrate on classroom instruction. The formation of the workgroup is a response to feedback received through engagement initiatives, including classroom visits and input from the Teacher Advisory Council.
