February 12 2024- In Houston’s 28th Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Competition, Montoia Murray, a student from Houston ISD’s Blackshear Elementary, secured the first-place honors. Overwhelmed with emotion upon hearing her name announced as the winner, Murray expressed her joy at being part of the competition and having the opportunity to discuss the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She was inspired to write her speech about Dr. King’s achievements and his contributions to changing the world. Murray’s win reflects her dedication and passion for honoring Dr. King’s legacy through her oratory skills.
