Cara Dugan, a Nebraska mother, has been charged with felony child abuse after allegedly leaving her 3-month-old baby alone in a hot car while she attended the Merrick County Fair on August 24. Authorities were alerted when the infant was heard crying and found in a truck with the engine off and windows partially open. Dugan was inside a building at the fairgrounds riding a horse during this time. The baby, who was evaluated at a local hospital and found unharmed, has been placed under the care of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Dugan was arrested and booked into the Merrick County Jail; it is not clear if she has entered a plea or obtained legal representation.
