March 4 2024- A group of parents has filed a federal lawsuit against the Marlin Independent School District, Superintendent Dr. Daryll Henson, and District Police Chief John Simmons, alleging a violation of their First Amendment rights to petition and free speech. The lawsuit stems from concerns over altered grades for the Marlin ISD Class of 2023, where only five out of 33 seniors were deemed eligible to graduate due to changes in grades resulting from incomplete courses. The issue prompted parental anger, leading to public meetings with Superintendent Daryll Henson that left parents with unanswered questions and a lack of faith in the system. Brandolyn Jones, a plaintiff and district parent, expressed frustration over her son’s dropped grade point average and attempted to seek resolution through multiple meetings with the district.
