In Reading, Pennsylvania, a 6-year-old girl died after being allegedly locked in a room for several days. Her grandparents, Jazmine Rodriguez (44) and Manuel Rodriguez Sr. (46), face charges of criminal homicide, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and endangerment. The child was found in cardiac arrest on May 28 and died from dehydration and heat exposure, with severe rashes from being in a soiled diaper. The room’s conditions may have reached 100 degrees due to poor air circulation. The girl’s uncle, Manuel A. Rodriguez, Jr. (20), is still at large. The Reading School District, where the child was a former student, expressed profound sadness over the “particularly horrific” circumstances.
