Oklahoma Superintendent will not Force Educators to Teach the Bible

< 1 min read

Rob Miller, superintendent of Bixby Public Schools in Oklahoma, has stated that his schools will not comply with a new mandate requiring the Bible to be taught in classrooms. While he supports teaching about the Bible’s historical and literary impact, he opposes the mandate’s directive to use the Bible in a way that he believes infringes on religious freedoms and conflicts with the separation of church and state outlined in the Oklahoma Constitution. Miller argues that the mandate goes beyond existing educational standards and could violate constitutional principles by using taxpayer funds for religious texts. He also finds the mandate offensive, feeling it reduces his faith to a mere educational tool. Despite the mandate’s requirements, including having Bibles and other historical documents in every classroom, Miller plans to adhere to a more traditional interpretation of educational standards.
