Study Identifies Factors Associated with Child Maltreatment in the Home

< 1 min read

New research from the Australian Catholic University has identified a complex interplay of child, parental, and contextual factors linked to the maltreatment of children within families. The study, based on a rapid review of 52 research studies, emphasizes the need for targeted support and parental education to address these issues effectively. It highlights various protective factors that help safeguard children from harm. The research follows the findings of the Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS), which revealed that 62.2% of Australians aged 16 and older have experienced forms of abuse or neglect, including exposure to domestic violence. Nearly two-thirds of these individuals reported multiple types of maltreatment.
