Uvalde School Police Officer Pleads not Guilty to Charges Stemming From Actions During 2022 Shooting

< 1 min read

Former school police officer Adrian Gonzales, involved in the delayed response to the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to act during the massacre. Gonzales was among nearly 400 officers who waited over 70 minutes before confronting the shooter, who killed 19 children and two teachers. At a court hearing in Uvalde, victims’ family members expressed frustration, feeling that only a few officers are being held accountable despite many being aware of the situation. Gonzales, along with former police Chief Pete Arredondo, was indicted in June. Both officers pleaded not guilty and were released on bond. Gonzales’ attorney argued that the charges against him are unprecedented and asserted that Gonzales believes he did his best to assist the children.
