Christine Remissong, whose 5-year-old son Luke attends Lincoln Heights Montessori in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district, faces significant challenges with the school bus schedule. Despite the school day being from 9:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Luke’s bus would pick him up at 6:59 a.m. and return him home at 5:49 p.m., leading to nearly four hours of travel. The long hours are problematic for a young child, prompting the Remissong family to drive Luke themselves. They plan to start carpooling with another family facing similar issues and hope for solutions to the ongoing transportation challenges caused by a shortage of bus drivers.
