Lawyer Chief Adekunle Funmilayo has threatened to sue the University of Lagos (UNILAG) if it does not cancel its plan to send 17 second-year Russian language students to Russia for a compulsory year abroad. Funmilayo, who has also petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for intervention, argues that the students should not be forced to travel to Russia due to the ongoing war with Ukraine, economic hardship, and the high cost of the trip. He claims the university’s requirement was not disclosed at admission and is urging that the students be allowed to either switch courses or continue their studies without going to Russia. Funmilayo has given UNILAG a week to address the issue before taking legal action.
